Reflecting together on ocean navigation and the new role that this type of sailing is gaining in Italy: this was the aim of the meeting L’Oceano a vela, organised by The Ocean Race at the Teatro del Mare in Genoa, on the occasion of the opening of the Boat Show.
During the meeting – moderated by journalist and writer Fabio Pozzo – Alberto Bona chatted with some great Italian ocean sailors: Andrea Fantini, Francesca Clapcich, Marco Trombetti and Ambrogio Beccaria.
Different life and sports experiences, different expectations and projects, but one point in common: a great passion for the ocean and the transversal commitment which inspires all sailors to protect the environment and the sea.
“Today sustainability is a critical issue”, commented Alberto Bona. “When it comes to climate change, navigators are major witnesses of the way the sea is changing, day by day. The project I started together with IBSA – Sailing into the Future. Together – is based on the goals of innovation, responsibility and, naturally, sustainability. We sailors are experts in the circular economy, especially when the routes are as long as the oceanic ones: we replace fossil fuels with solar and wind energy, we recycle everything we can. The solitary oceanic challenge is a great metaphor of what can and must be done for the environment”. The meeting offered also the occasion for a first public interaction between Alberto and Ambrogio Beccaria, friends and young navigators, both headed for the starting line of the Route du Rhum, which will start on November 6 from Saint-Malo.
