Healthy competition and inclusion were the protagonists of the 1st IBSA Cup

31 August 2023

Strong emotions, unforeseen events, enthusiasm and determination: this is how ended the first edition of the IBSA Cup – the traditional End-of-summer regatta organised by the Circolo Velico Lago di Lugano and sponsored this year by IBSA – which took place on the last weekend of August (26-27).

During these two days, many sailing and non-sailing enthusiasts gathered on Lake Ceresio for the second stage of the Ticino Sailing Championship for dinghies belonging to sailing clubs throughout Switzerland. On board Optimists, Lasers, Hansa 303s and keelboats (for a total of 30 crafts), about 150 athletes competed in the following different categories:

  • Racing keelboats: TV surf; the team of Andrea COLOMBO, Emanuele TABET, Michele TOSI, Giacomo PORETTI
  • Cruise keelboats: FUNbagno; the team of Julia OTTINO, Palma CARLONE, Luca TORRICELLI
  • ILCA 4: Geo CAVAZZUTI
  • ILCA 6: Kamilla SABOGAL
  • ILCA 7: Andrea ARVEDI
  • Optimist: Giovanni MAGNETTI
  • RS Feva: Nicola REGAZZONI, Carlo CASALINO
  • Special Olympics: Andrea CALLEGHER

The values of sport, healthy competition and inclusive sailing – as well as a spirit of sharing – actually triumphed in a regatta that engaged expert sailors, young athletes and new sailing talents… in addition to a crew of IBSA People!

The athletes of the Associazione Velabili – who aboard the Hansa 303s stood out for the same grit, commitment and determination that have always distinguished them, and which recently earned them the podium at the Special Olympics World Games Berlin 2023 – also participated in the IBSA Cup.

Great success for this first edition of the IBSA Cup, which also saw the attendance of Alberto Bona, ambassador of the project Sailing into the Future. Together: special guest of the event, Alberto took a break from the Class40 Championship regattas, before resuming his preparation for the ocean race Transat Jacques Vabre, starting on October 29.
