In Lorient (France), Alberto Bona receives the award for winning the 2023 Class40 Championship

08 April 2024

Double celebrations in Lorient (France) for Alberto Bona, Pablo Santurde del Arco and the other protagonists of the Class40: on Tuesday, April 2, sailors, technicians and members of the Class40 Association gathered to celebrate 20 years of the Class.

The undisputed protagonist of the evening was Bona, who rose on the top step of the 2023 Championship podium following an excellent season in which he triumphed in the RORC Caribbean 600 and in the Les Sables-Horta-Les Sables, in addition to his third place in the Défi Atlantique and in the Transat Jacques Vabre. Together with Alberto, Ambrogio Beccaria (Alla Grande Pirelli) and Erwan Le Draoulec (Everial) – in second and third place, respectively – were also awarded.

We worked well from the very beginning, managing to maintain concentration and consistency throughout the season and achieving excellent results”, commented Alberto.“The 2023 regattas involved long distances without any chance to make a maintenance stop in the shipyard; despite this, however, the boat proved to be very reliable. I am really proud of this award!”.

A prize shared in all respects with Pablo Santurde del Arco, the Spanish sailor who accompanied Alberto in all the double-handed or team regattas in 2023 and who, in the course of the evening, received the special recognition of best co-skipper of the season. “This is a team victory, the result of a job well done together”, emphasised Bona, highlighting the value of Pablo’s commitment, with whom he will share the cockpit also in the transoceanic Québec Saint-Malo at the end of June and in the Normandy Channel Race in September.
