The 19th edition of the Solo Maître CoQ 2022 – the first regatta of the renowned “Championnat Figaro de France Elite de Course au large” in solo, Class Figaro Beneteau – set sail from Port Olona, Les Sables d’Olonne, on Tuesday, April 19.
With number 51, Alberto Bona – the only Italian skipper among the 33 racers – takes part in the regatta with an IBSA-branded Figaro 3, a light and fast boat that will allow him to begin the in-water training phase, waiting for the new IBSA Class40.
“In recent months, I have decided, together with Sidney, to race with the Figaro 3, which is a very different boat from the Class40. The best and most experienced sailors in circulation race in this category; it’s still solo sailing, but instead of staying at sea for many weeks, the regattas last 4 or 5 days, there is a lot of melee (hand-to-hand fighting, close fighting), for which reason it is very different from the Class40”, commented Alberto. “Sidney and I think it’s useful to participate in these regattas in order to work on the stress of the competition and to train on the management of the emotional and physical energies, in anticipation of the longer races”.
