TQSM – Day 11 |

11 July 2024

Still 800 miles to go for Alberto Bona, Pablo Santurde del Arco and Luca Rosetti in the Transat Québec Saint-Malo. On the strategy front, the class40 IBSA continues her pursuit, with the approach to the coast and the resulting currents to be faced. Coming from behind, they may have more wind, so there is a good chance that IBSA can hook up with the leading group and put everything back into play. Once again, Ian Lipinski – who refuses to play a minor role – is there to shuffle the cards, attempting a new North option from the rear.

Unfortunately, the storm of recent days put the fleet to the test and, after the shipwreck of Alberto Riva, yesterday alsoAmbrogio Beccaria with his Alla Grande Pirelli was forced to abandon the race after discovering he was taking on water. He is now heading towards the Azores to save the boat.

Back to the race: Alberto Bona and his team are really giving everything.

“The sun is back! We started catching our breath a little and life on board is back to normal. A little rest for us warriors”, commented Alberto in a video where, from the cockpit, he filmed his crew mates intent on recovering their strength. “Now we are sailing upwind, but the sea has calmed down and we’re bumping much less than in recent days. We went North to try to catch a low; we practically surfed it. However, we are here; the others are ahead, but we don’t give up”.
