A thrilling finale for the Transat Jacques Vabre and for the Class40 IBSA which, at the 10:00 am (Martinique time) reading, is speeding at 10.5 knots towards the finish line, attacking her direct opponents to grab a place on the podium. With an estimated time of arrival between 1:00 and 3:00 pm and 50 miles still to go, Alberto Bona and Pablo Santurde del Arco sailed through the night with great determination, and recovered many miles and two positions on their direct opponents.
Removing from the equation Credit Mutuel – which appears to be in second position, but will end up back in the standings, because she did not participate in the first stage, due to a broken mast – the Class40 IBSA is fighting against Amarris for second place: her direct opponent comes from the North, and currently has a ten mile advantage at sea plus 19 minutes gained in the first stage of the race, while Alberto Bona is coming from the South, which means that the different approaches to Martinique will be decisive for the two boats, a further option for the Class40 IBSA to attack.
Meanwhile, at 1:00 pm Italian time, Ambrogio Beccaria crossed the finish line in first position, having covered the second stage in 18 days, 12 hours, 21 minutes and 55 seconds.
