On Friday, November 24, while the last Class40s had yet to cross the finish line, Alberto Bona and Pablo Santurde del Arco climbed to the third step of the podium of the Transat Jacques Vabre during a cheerful awards ceremony that took place a few steps from the boats that had already arrived in Fort de France, on the island of Martinique.
The trophy given to Bona and Santurde to commemorate their great racing performance aboard the Class40 IBSA represents a section of a coffee bean, which recalls the feat of the navigators who, intheXVIII and XIX centuries, travelled the route from Europe to the Antilles with their sailing ships to get supplies of spices and coffee from Martinique.
“A third place”, commented Alberto, “which is the arrival point of a Transat that proved to be very complex and, at the same time, the starting point of a third season that will see us protagonists in two challenging regattas that we can’t wait to run”.
